Mission Munshi In Public Service
Embracing a New Journey!
Dear Friends,
I am delighted to share a significant decision I’ve made recently. You might see it as βInterestingβ π€, βBoldβ πͺ, even a bit crazy π€ͺ, or possibly the βwrong moveβ πβyet, I am stepping forward with great passion β€οΈβπ₯ and hope. YOU are among the few I’ve chosen to share this with.
π¨ The Decision: I have officially stepped down as Country Representative of CORDAID to volunteer in Public Service. For the next two years (2016-17), I will be actively involved with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi ποΈ. I seek your support as I embark on this transformative journey π.
My journey begins in January 2016. Hereβs why I made this decision:
π The Motivation:
1οΈβ£ Overcoming Governmental Challenges: The current Government of India has posed significant challenges for NGOs, including CORDAID. Over the last three years, I’ve faced harassment, countless visits to the Home Ministry offices, and extensive bureaucratic hurdles πββοΈπ¨. These experiences have only deepened my commitment to stand against injustice β.
2οΈβ£ Positive Experience with AAP: My involvement as a grassroots campaigner during the last provincial elections in Delhi πΆββοΈπ’ was profoundly rewarding. Despite some public controversies surrounding AAP π«€, my continued engagement with the party has kept my optimism alive π.
π Family Support: A key pillar in my decision has been the unwavering support of my wife, Divya π€. Her encouragement has further strengthened my resolve to pursue this dream.
π Join the Movement: I invite you to support and encourage me as I step into this bold new chapter of my life. Together, we can make a difference for a better tomorrow.
Thank you for being part of my journey.

What do I intend to do? Reconnect to the grassroots, something I love to do, and be of service
Intent
There is a clear intent of working with Governance and this particular party, but not for power, but for accountable, transparent and humble public service. I do not want to criticize from the outside, but be a part of change from inside.
AAP
in spite of the flaws we may see, gives me the best option. And I had volunteered during the last assembly elections, which was a wonderful experience and I liked their down to earth style and sincerity. I have also built certain contacts there, which I will build further.
Choices
I may remain a party worker or may go for fighting Councilorβs elections or any other role in times to come. That choice I will leave to the Party.
Be an active part of AAP
IN CASE MY EXPERIENCE IS NOT PURPOSEFUL
In case my experience with AAP is not purposeful π€·ββοΈ, I will explore other ways to continue being in public service π€, although how remains totally unknown at this point π€. One thing is certain: it is impossible for me to join any other political party in India π«ποΈ.
π‘ I am open to all ideas and request you to share your thoughts π§ π¬.
To sustain my family and myself during this period π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦, I have developed a donation-based fundraising plan π°, targeting friends, family, extended family, and other well-wishers π. This initiative will be called βMission Munshi in Public Serviceβ π‘οΈ, and it will be on a trial basis for 2016-17. I am hopeful π€ to receive support from about 100 friends, including you π, whom I trust will help me unconditionally.
π If I fail to either financially sustain myself or contribute meaningfully to public service, I will aim to secure another job or consulting assignments after 2018.
As for my love β€οΈ and commitment to reducing the risk and impact of disasters in peopleβs lives π, I plan to dedicate one week every month as a consultant with Cordaid π’ (operating under a different name). This will also partly help me financially π΅
FINANCIAL PLAN
Utilization of Contribution π°π‘
I have developed a list of around 120 people and will approach them with a request to donate a minimum of INR 1000 every month for two years (2016-17) π. Those who love me more π will, of course, give me more π. As you know me… “Mera Dil Maange More” πβ¨.
Since this money comes from friends and well-wishers who have faith in me π, I will follow a code of conduct to ensure accountability π§Ύ:
Expense Breakdown π‘π
I will bring all my expenses/living costs down to a little more than half:
1οΈβ£ Contribution will be used for household running expenses, which includes:
- π Monthly support to my mom: INR 40,000
- π Basic bills: Telephone (parents/self), TV, Internet, wifeβs mobile bill (until she starts earning) = Approx. INR 9,000/month
- π Current car loan: INR 8,588 (till June 2018)
- β½ Petrol costs (Delhi-Ghaziabad-Delhi, daily commute): INR 10,000/month
- πΆ Investment/savings for Kabir and future: INR 45,000/month
- π Charity: INR 3,000/month to People Watch, an organization working to protect the human rights of the marginalized
- π οΈ Home maintenance: Domestic help, plumbing, electricity = Approx. INR 7,000/month
2οΈβ£ Total living expenses: Approx. INR 1,22,588 π΅.
3οΈβ£ If you include:
- My pocket allowance: INR 7,000/month
- My wifeβs pocket allowance: INR 10,000/month
The grand total comes to approx. INR 1,50,000/month.
π‘ I promise not to increase my expenses beyond this amount, even if the donations and one weekβs consultancy exceed expectations. Iβm counting on my generous friends π₯°.
Current Salary vs. Planned Expenses ππΈ
- Current Salary: INR 1,76,000 (from my current employer) + Consultancy Fee = INR 2,25,000/month
- Starting January 2016, I will cut all luxury expenses:
- π« Expensive restaurants
- π« Air travel
- π« Holidays, clothes, gifts
- π« Partying with friends
In short, my personal hobbies, interests, and other miscellaneous expenses will not be covered by this fund π.
Reporting and Accountability ππ
From February 2016, I will:
A. Provide all donors with monthly updates on Munshiβs activities (Report/Blog) π.
B. Share a financial report, declaring any surpluses πΉ.
C. Make details of Munshiβs activities available on a website/blog π.
A Call to Action π€πͺ
I know many of you might wish to take a similar path or fully support my decision but are unable to due to other commitments. This is your chance to contribute through me π. I promise you will not find me lacking in effort π―.
π I will soon approach you to fund me with INR 1,000/month or more, and I am confident of your positive response π.
Thank you for your support and prayers πβ¨,
Munish
